Si-yaq سياق
“For me context is the key – from that comes the understanding of everthing”.
Kenneth Noland

About Si-yaq
Siyaq, or سياق in Arabic, means context and Si-yaq is a consultancy with a special focus on context.
The team behind Siyaq comes from mixed professional backgrounds where the dismal gap between what is produced in academia and what is produced by humanitarian/development practice is loud and clear. We understand that both worlds speak different languages and operate at different levels and paces. However, we think that a lot is lost in the void and a lot of knowledge is missed due to the absence of a bridge connecting both fields.
That is why we got together … to merge academic and practitioner knowledge to provide a better context to the current affairs of humanitarian sites and crises.
Why Si-yaq as a name?
We decided to call our consultancy Si-yaq because context is key and context is very easily missed, lost, or even ignored. At the beginning, the dash in our domain name was simply because siyaq without a dash was taken, but thinking about it later, we thought the dash fits well with our approach to connecting pieces and linking dots..
If we want to be a bit more candid and put the professional language aside, we’ve had it with the disconnect between academia and practice when it comes to humanitarian/development aid (exceptions exist needless to say). We want to produce research that is timely, contextual, comprehensive and derived from both sources of knowhow to help policy makers, donors, implementers, organisations, and institutions make more informed decisions.
